Singapore Firm Unveils RNA-Powered Skin-Colored Scar Patch

2025-12-02

A biotechnology company in Singapore has launched a novel skin-colored patch that aims to address scars at their root cause. Developed by RNAscence Biotechnology, the "BioRNA Anti-Scar" patch is described as a breakthrough in active scar care technology.

Unlike conventional silicone scar treatments that work on the skin's surface, this patch delivers a proprietary RNA active ingredient directly into the skin. It uses dissolvable hyaluronic acid microneedles to interrupt the biological pathway responsible for scar formation, preventing excessive collagen buildup.

The company reports that clinical studies show promising results. In a comparison test, surgical incisions treated with the RNA patch showed a 95% reduction in scar volume after 60 days, outperforming sections treated with standard silicone patches. Dermatologists involved in the research note the product is effective on both new and older scars, including challenging keloids, with newer scars responding best to the recommended six-to-eight-week application period.

Designed for patient convenience, the waterproof patch can be applied for about eight hours at a time and is available for purchase directly by consumers online and through clinics. The company emphasizes the product's safety profile, backed by ISO testing and human trials on individuals with sensitive skin. RNAscence is now looking to expand into new markets, including Hong Kong and Australia, and is exploring the adaptation of its RNA technology for other skin conditions like eczema and hyperpigmentation.
